Harvey’s Butchers has been supporting the 8th Norwich Sea Scouts for over 60 years. Nigel Harvey, our owner, joined the Scout group at 10 years old and has continued to support the group both financially and practically through all his life.
The 8th Norwich Sea Scouts, a registered charity and members of the worldwide Scout Association, currently have nearly 300 young people and over 100 adult volunteers as members. They are one of the largest Sea Scout groups in the country. They provide several exciting activities throughout the year; weekly meetings, camps, training in boating pursuits, biking, first aid and bush craft to name but a few.
The key aim of the 8th Norwich is to fulfil the Scout Association ethos of; enabling young people to
build confidence and self-esteem, learn important life skills and leadership skills, team building, outdoor adventure, education, and fun, thereby learning how to make good choices and to take responsibility for their actions so that they are prepared for their adult life as independent persons.
The 8th are now undertaking a new project to renovate and update their riverside facilities in Norwich to provide a more suitable setting for their ever-growing membership, to enable disabled access across all their facilities and hopefully deliver a new environment for the local community to benefit from.
